Walker Broadcast Management Institute
Adds 7 More Graduates and Conducts 4th Annual Graduate School Session

The 2008 WBA Foundation Management Institute, held May 13-15, was a hit with a record 30 broadcasters taking part. An additional 10 broadcasters attended the 4th Annual Graduate School Session. The Institute - the first of its kind sponsored by a state broadcasters association organization, was again, for the 11th year in a row, held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in conjunction with the UW School of Business. We were thrilled this year to have 7 more graduates from the 3-year module, bringing our total number of graduates up to 55.

The 4th Annual Graduate School Session was held this year for past attendees who have graduated after completing the Management Institute’s 3-year cycle. It was held on Wednesday afternoon, concurrently with the Institute sessions. The Graduate School sessions featured “The 2008 Economy: The Housing & Credit Crisis” by Steven Rick, Senior Economist, CUNA Mutual & Lecturer UW-Madison Department of Economics on Money & Banking, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics and "Differentiating Your Broadcasting Business" by Kay Plantes, PhD., Corporate Strategist & Instructor, UW-Madison School of Business on Social Entrepreneurship. This year’s 3-day Management Institute spent full days on the following topics: Financial Management For Broadcasters (Part II), Customer Service, and Managing Organizational Change & Managing Motivation.

Graduate and Institute attendees came together on Wednesday evening for dinner followed by a delightful conversation between WBA Foundation President John Laabs and Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the estate of William R. Walker which graciously donated funds to endow the WBA Foundation Management Institute. The gift is the largest single contribution ever received by the Foundation.
