He began his 47 year broadcast career as a 15-year old high school freshman as an announcer at KXRA-AM, Alexandria, Minnesota in 1955. He followed that with stints at KCJB Radio & TV, Minot, KSTP Radio & TV, Minneapolis, WRC Radio & TV and the Voice of American, Washington D.C. He joined WTMJ-AM & TV in 1965 as an anchor/reporter and through his 37 years at those stations served in various capacities, assignment editor, producer, editorial director and manager of Public Affairs, closing his career as Vice President of Human Resources for the Journal Broadcast Group. He was a founding member of the National First Amendment Congress, and also served as President of the Milwaukee Press Club, the Milwaukee Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Broadcast Editorial Association. He served many years on the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation.
