Howard Emich’s 48-year broadcast career began in 1932 when he read his high school’s weekly news on WHBY-AM, Green Bay. He studied journalism at UW-Madison and joined the university’s radio station, WHA-AM after high school. He moved to WMAM-AM, Marinette in 1940 as news editor and announcer and then on to news editing and announcing stints with United Press International, WBBM-AM, Chicago, and WJR-AM, Detroit, in the early 1940’s. In 1944, he returned to WMAM as commercial manager and news anchor. During his career at WMAM, he served as program director, commercial manager, general manager, was a co-owner and helped put WLUK-TV on the air in Marinette in 1954. He retired in 1980 as “Marinette’s Newsman”, having delivered over 10,000 news broadcasts.
