The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation contribution to broadcasting in Wisconsin encompasses a strategic, long term vision for enhancing, promoting and supporting the broadcast industry by encouraging the preservation of broadcast history, participating in public affairs activities in the State of Wisconsin and providing educational opportunities for professional broadcasters and those who seek future careers in the broadcast industry.

COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation offers four scholarships - two $2,000 awards and two $1,000 awards to assist students enrolled in broadcasting-related educational programs at 4-year public or private colleges and universities. Students who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. The deadline for application is Friday, October 16, 2009, and all applications must be received by the WBA office by this date. The two highest ranked applicants by the WBA Foundation Board will received the $2,000 awards and the next two highest ranked will received $1,000 awards.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Four-year Colleges & Universities
Applicant must have completed 60 credits as of October 1, 2009 and must be majoring in broadcasting, communications, or a related field at a four-year public or private college or university.

2. Applicants must have a Wisconsin connection in that they must have either graduated from a Wisconsin high school OR be attending a Wisconsin college or university.

3. Applicants must be planning a career in radio or television broadcasting.

4. Previous WBA scholarship winners are not eligible.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. All applicants must complete the WBA Foundation Scholarship Application Form.  ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE TYPED OR COMPUTER GENERATED. NO HANDWRITTEN APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

2. All applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Completed application form; (download here)
  • Copy of current official transcript of college/university grades;
  • Two brief letters of recommendation supporting the application;
  • An original essay written by the applicant forecasting what the broadcasting industry will be like in five years, and how the applicant believes he or she will contribute to radio or television during that time; the essay must be typed (double-spaced) and should not exceed three pages in length.

3. All application materials must be received by Friday, October 16, 2009.
